THE FRIENDLY MATCHES ARE HAPPENING IN RWANDA.
The Parliament of Rwanda is hosting the 13th Inter-Parliamentary games under the theme, “For a progressive, peaceful and, all inclusive EAC.” The games are taking place in Kigali City and Bugesera District. These matches began on the 8th of Dec and end on 18th of Dec 2023. Between 700 to 800 members of parliament, senators and other parliamentary staff from East African Community are participating. The matches are aimed at enhancing collaboration, foster networking and bond between the National Legislatures and EALA.
Additionally, the games are serving as a platform to raise awareness among citizens of the EAC about the integration process through engaging in sporting activities. The games are featuring eight sporting disciplines which are, football, netball, volleyball, tug of war, basket ball, golf, athletics, and darts. Notably, they made provisions to ensure that MPs with Physical disabilities actively engage in sports to ensure inclusivity and equal participation for all.
Trans-Nzoia Senator, Allan Chesang, has been key in almost all the eight games played. His active participation in sports prior to this inter-parliamentary games has been notable. Through his involvement in sports such as the Allan Chesang Super Cup, Volley ball, Marathon and , the recently added the Senators’ swing golf tournament in his annual calendar through, the Allan Chesang Foundation. The youthful Senator has said that he is proud to represent the country in the games and, any other chance to positively raise the Kenyan flag high and place the Country’s name in the world map.
Senator Allan who plays for Bunge FC, on Sunday they thrashed the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) 5-0 in a captivating football match at the Kigali Pele Stadium in Rwanda. Captained by Rarienda MP Hon. Dr. Otiende Amollo, the team held down their opponents, who barely had any attempt at goal against a tight Kenyan defence in the second half, sending the stadium into a frenzy.
These games are currently ongoing and the processing of results will be done on Monday the 18th of December. After which, the honorable members will pay a visit to the Genocide Memorial Site in Rwanda, before the closing ceremony for the legislatures to depart to their respective countries. We can not fail to acknowledge how well team Kenya performed at these friendly matches and safe to say that the winning spirit runs deep in us, even in sports.
Among the leaders present is the Speaker of the Senate, Rt. Hon. Jeffah Amason Kingi among many other Members of Parliament and Senators. The country is well represented in this special East African Community moment.
This event has been a vibrant display of camaraderie, cooperation and sportsmanship emblematic of the East African Community.
