Why us His Excellency? This is a cry for help from the affected people of demolition in Trans-Nzoia county.

Speaking to the media from his Nairobi office, Trans-Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang, has pleaded with the President to intervene on the ongoing demolitions in Kitale that is to pave way for the Affordable housing project. In his statement, the Senator said he fully supports the affordable housing project by the National Government and reiterates on the importance of the county government for a different approach on the matter but not demolish peoples houses, for this will not only interfere with their daily livelihoods but also investors in the region hence a business setback.

The affordable housing project was launched weeks ago by the President and the project was to start with 2000 houses. He added that, the land which is claimed to be owned by government, was sold to the affected people of Trans-Nzoia, in which, a mess the Senator believes was created by the previous regime therefore, the buyers are innocent and third purchasers of the said property.

Senator Chesang accuses the Governor of selfish interest on this matter and says he is out here to hurt the people of Trans-Nzoia instead of having policies in place to ensure a balance between the people and development. Trans-Nzoia Senator has questioned the Governors’ move to demolish and disperse people without prior engagements with the National Land Commission to find alternatives that will also favor over a hundred thousand people sitting on a more than 3000 acres of land. Questioning the governor of the impending crisis that will be created through demolitions and IDPs

Adding that, not only will people be affected, economy of the county disrupted but also a number of public and private schools will be affected. This means disrupting the normal learning program for the children hence a psychological, mental and physical disorientation. Moreover, he pleaded that, Cherangany Nursing Home that has been of help for years to hundreds of thousands ,churches, children homes and, other social amenities will be a big blow to the people affected by the demolitions. Senator Allan pleading with President on behalf of his people saying that the affected are ready and willing to have an engagement with the Government through the ministries concerned.

The Senator reiterated his full support to the President but with a heavy heart, pleads with the president to rethink about the directive and, listen to the cry of the innocent people. In his plea to the President, he highlighted the investment in billions of shilling that the people have done over years, their loved ones buried in these land and the only place they call a home.
