TRANS-NZOIA SENATOR ALLAN CHESANG WELCOMES THE PRESIDENT TO KITALE.
The President of the Republic of Kenya, His Excellency Hon. Dr. William Samoei Ruto officially visited Trans-Nzoia county to launch a number of projects in the region. The President was accompanied by Cabinet Secretary for Health Dr. Susan Nakhumicha, Cabinet Secretary Eliud owalo, Majority leader Hon. Kimani Ichungwa. Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Members of parliament from the region, MCAs and Senator Allan Chesang who received him upon landing.
The President launched the 54th Jitume Lab in Trans-Nzoia community ICT hub . An initiative that has been spearheaded by Senator Allan Chesang who is not only the senator in the region but also the Chairperson of ICT in the Senate. Cabinet Secretary for information, Communication and Digital economy Mr. Eliud Owalo together with his Principal Secretary expressed the amazing work that the Senator has done.
Speaking during the launch, Senator Chesang thanked the President for the support he has given to ensure such centers are actualized and, said that 100 computers were donated to the Hub by Konza Technopolis Development Authority to enable the youth upscale their digital skills and tap into the global online job opportunities. Adding that, the space is dedicated to fostering collaboration and innovation in the field of Information, Communication and, Technology. Reiterating that the space is a hub for knowledge exchange and technological advancement therefore, the youths should take advantage and utilize it to the maximum.
President William Ruto applauded leaders from the region for working together to ensure the interest of the people are a priority stating that Digital skills are a passport to the potential and promise of the digital economy. Moreover, the President stating that Digital jobs will reduce unemployment and give the youths an alternative path to economic freedom and also contribute to a better Country. He gave his word to the over 100 youths, who were already working at the Hub, that they are building 1400 ICT hubs across the wars in the country to ensure every youth in Kenya has requisite skills to take advantage of online opportunities.
The leaders presents echoed the words of the President by reiterating that online jobs are not only a way to provide a livelihood but also cab idleness, poverty, thuggery and drug abuse among the youths who are more vulnerable to such.
The President in his visit to Kitale, toured the Masinde Muliro Market and promised to inject 100 million to facilitate the completion of the market in order to provide a decent environment for small traders in recognition to their contribution to the growth of the economy. He also toured the proposed land marked for the construction of Kitale Affordable Housing project that will employ at least 2,000 youths from the county.
The President and other leaders present, later addressed the people of Trans-Nzoia county in Kitale town.
