LAUNCH OF FREE PUBLIC WI-FI HOTSPOTS IN THE COUNTRY.

HON ALLAN PRESENT DURING THE LAUNCH OF FREE PUBLIC WI-FI IN ELDAMA RAVINE.

The Chairman of ICT in the Senate on Saturday accompanied the Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo for the launch of Jitume Centre in Eldama Ravine, Baringo county. This is a Government Sponsored free public Wi-Fi hotspot which is among the many others that will soon be launched.

CS Eliud says that while this centers equip the youth with digital skills for the creative and digital economies, it also connects them to the internet for online businesses and digitally-enabled opportunities. Hence, facilitating access to Government services online even to those in the mashinani.

There were other leaders present and the ICT chairman in the Senate made his remarks stating that they will go to each and every county in Kenya. He made light moments by stating that the people of Baringo are smart as result of eating honey. Moreover, he went ahead to give an example of a girl from Eldama Ravine who was given a CNN award for her ICT involvement and told the youths present that it is possible. The Trans-Nzoia Senator said he is a beneficiary of ICT and he has made money by working online after completing campus.

Hon. Allan Chesang is a light to many youths in the country because of his dedication and achievements at such a young age. He has urged the youth not to sit and wait but tap the opportunities available in the digital space.

He, Senator Allan Chesang, CS Eliud Owalo and other leaders present are spearheading the Presidents ICT agenda to the people. The President said during his campaign that the 24,000 markets across the country are connected to electricity and soon, all will have free government-sponsored wi-fi. The Cabinet Secretary concluded the event by stating that the Government is committed to carrying everyone along in the digital revolution.

They concluded the event with a tree growing exercise. This is in align with the Presidents 15 billion tree planting initiative by 2032. The initiative is an effort to combat the effects of climate change in the country.
