In a long awaited historical event that has been graced by the Cabinet Secretary of Investments, Trade and Industry Hon Moses Kuria, Trans-Nzoia leaders accompanied him in the groundbreaking of the County Aggregation and, Industrial Park (CAIP), to pave way for Agricultural Transformation in the region.
This move will set the county to become one of the leading exporters of Agricultural products to international markets with the imminent operation of the park and, it being the basket of the country, this project will be a game changer in lowering the cost of food products.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony Trans-Nzoia Senator, Hon. Allan Chesang, highlighted the plight farmers have been going through under middlemen. He noted that for years the farmers have been selling their produce at low prices. Senator Chesang assuring the residents of Trans-Nzoia that with the upcoming milling plant, it will increase the value of products by eliminating middlemen and, generate job opportunities to them. In his statement, he gave an assurance that the finished products will not only be locally consumed but also exported to different counties and countries.
Cabinet Secretary of Trade, Hon Moses Kuria stressed that this project aligns with the collaborative efforts of both the National and county Governments to accelerate economic growth and, improve service delivery to the citizens. He added that, in collaboration with the county government, they have plans to prioritize transportation and, infrastructure within the park to streamline the movement of goods to and, from the facility. He has announced all the upcoming improvements within the facility which includes, electricity connectivity and, piped water.
The Cabinet Secretary lauded the leaders for their collective efforts to improve the residents’ living standards by encouraging investments. He has emphasized that the County Aggregation and Industrial Park would play a significant role in poverty eradication by value addition to farm produce. He further criticized the practice of residents selling maize at lower prices and, later buying maize flour at higher prices highlighting that the parks’ milling plant would change this current scenario. He disclosed the National Government ongoing plan in procuring maize driers worth 2 billion for installation in the county.
The Public Secretary for Trade, Mr. Juma Mukhwana, also present gave the estimated projects’ cost at 500 million, acknowledging that the county government has contributed 250 million. He assured the residents of Trans-Nzoia county that the project will be completed within 9 to 18 months since its kickoff.
This ambitious project will see it occupy a 100- acre land and, Governor Natembeya emphasizing that it is a transformational potential for the counties’ agriculture and industry sector. Speaking to the people of Trans-Nzoia, he stated and I quote, “the launch represents a pivotal milestone in our counties economic growth. It will serve as a central hub for processing agricultural products and, manufacturing, establishing a vital link between local farmers, industries and, both national and international markets.”
It has indeed been a new dawn for the people of Trans-Nzoia and the country at large.
Trans-Nzoia Senator has pledged his commitment and, determination to ensuring that the interest of the people of Trans-Nzoia comes first and, continue to collaborate with the county administration to ensure residents reap the benefits of devolution.
